Let’s take a further look at what each act has to offer, as we give you a sneak peek of what to expect from the national final!

Trong – ‘Dare to Be Different’

Trong is a singer and dancer of Vietnamese descent, both of his parents immigrated to Germany in 1991. One of his biggest career successes is winning the sixth season of ‘Vietnam Idol’ in 2015. He applied to represent Germany previously too – attempting to be the act at Eurovision 2015. Now, he’s made it to the final stage where he’s hoping to make it all the way with his feel good pop banger ‘Dare to Be Different’ – it’s even co-written by twice MGP participant Elsie Bay.

René Miller – ‘Concrete Heart’

René Miller is more known for his song writer credits rather than as a performer, mostly known for his long-term collaboration with German house-hold pop singer Zoe Wees. Now taking centre stage, he’ll be looking to wow the German jury and public with his dramatic mid-tempo number ‘Concrete Heart’.

Anica Russo – ‘Once Upon a Dream’

Anica grew up in Germany with a Croatian father and an Italian mother. Her love of music flourished from a young age, as she wrote her first songs while still in elementary school. She then got a record deal at 18, reasling her first single single ‘Rebel’ and has supported the likes of Ariana Grande, Alan Walker and Zoe Wees on tour. Her bond-style track full of haunting strings will hopefully create a dramatic moment in the show – especially when those drums kick in!

Lonely Spring – ‘Misfit’

The band Lonely Spring are made up of twin brothers Jules and Simon as well as Manu and Matthias, meeting each other at school. At the age of 13 they started performing together in local battle of the band style competitions. Finally in 2014, they created the formality of Lonely Spring as we know it today. Their throwback 2000s emo sound brings a nostalgic feel to the competition and with this genre coming back around, it will have its audience on the night.

“Pop punk is a genre that’s flourishing in the mainstream, and not just in the US, thanks to acts like Machine Gun Kelly. MÃ¥neskin have also proven that rockier acts work.”

Will Church – ‘Hold On’

A contestant on ‘The Voice Germany’ 2021, he managed to get all four coaches to turn for him in his first audition with his very appropriate audition song, Eurovision winning ‘Arcade’ by Duncan Laurence which now has 2 million YouTube views. Since the show, he has released a collection of singles over the past few years but he’s now ready to try and break fully through into the mainstream with his vocal-heavy mid-tempo entry ‘Hold On’.

Patty Gurdy – ‘Melodies of Hope’

At 16 years old, Patricia Büchler aka Patty Gurdy discovered the hurdy-gurdy – a traditional medieval folk instrument. Now aged 26, she’s taken her love of the instrument across Europe and beyond with many tours as well as connecting with fans via her YouTube channel. Describing her sound as Celtic Folk Pop – she has impressed Eurofans with her combination of pop and traditional with her Unser Lied für Liverpool entry ‘Melodies of Hope’.

Ikke Hüftgold – ‘Lied mit gutem Text’

Ikke Hüftgold was the winner of the TikTok Wildcard round, with 52% of the public vote via the TikTok app. Now, he’ll be looking to impress a wider audience than just TikTok with his tongue and cheek German language entry about Germany’s recent results at Eurovision (he will sing the bridge and last chorus in English on Friday). He is no stranger to the German music industry though, with a strong successful career in songwriting, performing and producing. Will his hype and momentum see him represent Germany at Eurovision 2023?

The band look to bring some more success 10 years later with their acoustic guitar led entry ‘Alle Frauen in mir sind müde‘ (All the women in me are tired) with a feminist empowering message.

Lord Of The Lost – ‘Blood and Giltter’

You could argue that Lord Of The Lost have the biggest following going into Friday night. Made up of singer and guitarist Chris Harms, guitarist Pi Stoffers, bassist Klaas Helmecke, multi-instrumentalist Gared Dirge and drummer Niklas Kahl, the band have been in the industry since 2009 taking over the gothic metal scene. In 2022 they accompanied the heavy metal legends Iron Maiden as special guests in an 18 show tour across 16 European countries.
