Andrew Lambrou will be representing Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool next year in May. In this article, we’ll be finding out more about who he is and his career up to now, so let’s dive in.

Early Career

Andrew Lambrou is an Australian-Cypriot singer-songwriter from Sydney, Australia. He’s 24 years old and has been a lover of music, as well as being a massive fan of Eurovision all his life. He grew up watching the singing contest with his family every year together.

When he was 5 years old, he won first prize in a music competition where he sang ‘Do-Re-Mi’ from the musical, “The Sound of Music”. He then enrolled in a music school which enabled him to gain more experience in singing and performing in front of an audience.

Andrew started uploading covers of songs onto his YouTube channel. His first cover which he uploaded was ‘My Immortal’ by Evanescence when he was only 15. These covers began to be shared all over the world and some even went viral! His most famous cover was of ‘Dusk Till Dawn’ originally by ZAYN ft Sia, which to this day has over 2.4 million views on YouTube.

In 2015, at just 17 years old, Lambrou auditioned for The X Factor Australia. He wowed the judges, including his future mentor Chris Isaak, with his audition. Although he was eliminated at the Super Home Visits (or the Judges’ Houses if you’re from the UK), he still made the Top 20 out of thousands of auditionees.

Andrew continued uploading covers to his ever-growing fanbase when, at the age of 17, he was noticed by Sony ATV and was signed. He had the opportunity to work with an array of talented musicians in order to develop his craft further. The time he spent in Australia as well as in Los Angeles enabled Andrew to start writing his own material instead of just performing covers.

Early Singles

In 2021, he was then signed with Sydney based City Pop Records and finally released his dark pop/ R&B debut single ‘Throne’. Australian Independent Record Labels Association described Throne as “a dark and compelling debut that sees the young singer-songwriter signalling his arrival as an up-and-coming pop heavyweight.” He proceeded to release two more singles, ‘Lemonade’ and ‘Confidence’ later that year.

He continued to build up his social media following on YouTube, Instagram, and now on TikTok with his content and has amassed over 1.3 million followers across these platforms. He calls his fans “The Lambroughinis”.

Australia Decides and Eurovision 2023

In November 2021, Andrew was revealed to be one of the 11 acts taking part in Australia Decides 2022 with his song ‘Electrify’. After all the years he’d spent watching Eurovision with his family, the chance for him to take part in Eurovision and perform in front of hundreds of millions of viewers was a dream to him. Unfortunately, that year it wasn’t meant to be as the dance number finished 7th place in the live final scoring 51 points.

Later that year, Andrew finally had his dream come true when in October 2022, Eurovision announced that he had been internally selected by the Cypriot broadcaster CyBC to represent his parents’ homeland Cyprus in Eurovision 2023 with Panik Records. They are one of the biggest record labels in Cyprus and Greece, and home to former Eurovision participants such as Eleni Foureira, Tamta and Elena Tsagrinou. That same month, he had also signed with the record label to support his Eurovision entry (which is supposed to be coming out in on March 2nd), as well as support him with his future releases.

Andrew recently shared his Spotify stats for 2022 which showed that his music was streamed almost a million times and he had listeners in 172 countries, further proving his fanbase is global and not just in Europe.

We wish him the best of luck in Liverpool!
