Eurovision 2025 season is finally here, and we have our first artist reveal! After Silia Kapsis maintained Cyprus’s qualification streak with her song ‘Liar’ in 2024. Theo Evan will be hoping to give Cyprus another great result next May in Switzerland! Read on to find out more about him.
Theo Evan, born Evangelos Theodorou, is a singer-songwriter born to a Greek-Cypriot family. He was brought up in the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia.
His passion for music began at an early age when his parents bought him his first CD, ‘We Are The World’ by Michael Jackson. It was love at first listen, and Michael Jackson has since become one of his favourite artists and musical inspirations. When he was 7, he attended a local dance school showing how performing was something he wanted to do for the rest of his life. As he became more experienced as a dancer, he entered competitions and won various medals in said dance competitions.
He later joined the school’s choir where he performed different songs from musicals which he really enjoyed but it was by taking part in this choir, that he wanted to write and perform songs of his own. He then moved to Boston where he studied Professional Music at the Berklee College of Music where he received exceptional grades and enabled him to develop his craft even further.
The Berklee College of Music is also where famous musicians have studied. These include Charlie Puth, and Eurovision 2024 contestants Teya Dora and Marina Satti!
In 2021, he released his first-ever single called ‘The Wall’ which was a catchy reggaeton pop song featuring a professional dance routine showing off his vocal and dancing ability. At the time of writing, it has received 30,000 streams on Spotify and 200,000 views on YouTube.
The following year, he released the follow-up singles, ‘SO COLD’ and ‘BURN US DOWN’ and in 2023, he released singles ‘SAVE ME FROM MYSELF’ and ‘DARK SIDE’.
These follow up singles showed off a different sound for him proving his versatility as an artist. As well as Michael Jackson, he has also been inspired by Belgian superstar Stromae.
While he’s had some experience as a solo artist releasing several singles, Eurovision will be his biggest challenge yet.
It is not yet known what the song is called or when it will be revealed, but if previous years are anything to go by, the Cypriot song will be unveiled in February or March 2025, but we will let you know when a date has been announced!
We wish Theo Evan and the Cypriot delegation the very best of luck for Basel in 2025!
