Now it’s time for the fourth and final heat of Melodifestivalen 2022 before we move onto the semi-final round (aka, Andra Chansen). This weekend we’ll see the final acts take to the stage and reveal their songs. As always throughout the heat process, we’ve been watching run-throughs of the rehearsals and are here to bring you reaction from what’s been happening on stage this week.

Anna Bergendahl – Higher Power

The show kicks off with the Mello superstar Anna Bergendahl with her classic country-pop sound we’ve all come to know and love. Anna is walking around in a beige outfit surrounded by dark LEDs featuring lightning and horses. Anna sells the song with her charisma and charm. It’s definitely not as strong as ‘Kingdom Come’ from 2021 but it’s a nice end to her trilogy from her latest previous attempts at Melodifestivalen – ‘Ashes to Ashes’, ‘Kingdom Come’ and now ‘Higher Power’.

Lillasyster – Till Our Days Are Over

Everything about this is classic Lillayster, the staging and song itself stay completely true to the band’s style. The lead singer (Martin Westerstrand) commands the stage and wants to make sure he is heard! If you’re a fan of them, you will like this.

Malin Christin – Synd om

A beautiful piano-led ballad – the song starts with Malin behind the piano with spotlights around her, before moving to the centre stage just before the second chorus. There is a projection of moving hands on her piano too. This is a really refreshing entry for the competition and Malin is captivating throughout. If you liked “Kelle mä soitan” from Finland’s National Final in 2021, we think you’ll like this.

Tenori – La stella

Well, this is something completely different! Tenori are the definition of pop-opera, combining classic Scandi style pop with their operatic vocals. The staging is dark with light explosions all around them, with a moon background and flashes of red. Not forgetting the raining pyro! This will certainly make you stand up pay attention!

Medina – In i dimman

The new Samir & Viktor? There’s been some chat online that duo Medina could be exactly that. There are definitely similar vibes of pure fun with hints of Latin sounds and of course, a pop drop. This is a song and performance that really needs an audience to thrive – so let’s see what happens on Saturday.

Angelino – The End

Angelino is bringing his man-ballad ‘The End’ to the competition, he is alone on stage as he attempts to take you on an emotional journey with the support of a glowing light show. He’s surrounded by these lights from left to right to behind, trying to make this as intimate as possible. This will definitely have its audience on Saturday, but we can see question marks around the song’s stick-ability factor.

Klara Hammarstr̦m РRun to the Hills

When you put last in heat four in Melodifestivalen you’re expecting something special. Klara is giving us a different sound from her previous Mello entries and gives us hints of a Basshunter style beat! It’s definitely one of the most thought about stage shows as Klara is joined by a dancer and an LED tree – giving fairy and forest vibes. A fire contender to go direct to the final.

Overview and Ones to Watch

Now we have heard all of the songs from Melodifestivalen 2022, we have to say the line-up is pretty diverse. As the contest exits its Christer Björkman era, we think it may take a few years to find its new direction, but there are gems here to take notice of. For the final heat, you’ll definitely want to look out for Anna Bergendahl‘s final chapter of her Mello trilogy, a very emotive performance from Malin Christin and Medina to show their full potential with a crowd as they bring the fun. Roll on Saturday night!

Who are you looking forward to the most? Let us know in the comments!
