Back in February, Ireland selected their song & artist for Eurovision 2025!
As we look ahead to Semi Final 2, let’s find out more about them…
Who Is Emmy?
Emmy Kristiansen is a 24 year old singer-songwriter born and raised in Holmestrand , Norway. In 2015 at age 14, she took part in Melodi Grand Prix JR with the song ‘Aiaiaiai’.
In 2021, she participated in the adult version of Melodi Grand Prix with the song ‘Witch Woods’ – the song made it to the final, but didn’t qualify for the gold final, which that year was won by TIX. Emmy returned as a songwriter in 2024 for Mathilde SPZ, Chris Archer and Slam Dunk‘s song ‘Woman Show’.
Eurosong 2025
In January 2025, Emmy was announced as one of 6 artists competing in Ireland’s national final, Eurosong with the entry ‘Laika Party’. The song is about the Russian dog Laika who was sent to space in 1957, and whilst she passed away during the mission, the song takes a more positive tone – hoping that Laika is still alive and having a “party in the sky”.
On February 7th 2025, Emmy was declared the winner of Eurosong – receiving 10 points from the international jury and 12 points from the Irish jury and public, giving her an overall score of 34 points – 8 points ahead of Samantha Mumba in 2nd place. We spoke to Emmy at Melfest WKND about the reaction from the Irish public to her becoming their Eurovision entry, which you can watch below!
Eurovision 2025
At Eurovision 2025, Ireland will perform in Semi Final 2, after Montenegro and before Latvia. Last year, Ireland made it to their first final in 6 years with ‘Doomsday Blue’ by Bambie Thug, who went on to place 6th overall – one of the nations best results in the contest since the 2000s began. Will Emmy be able to get them a qualification streak?
We wish Ireland & Emmy the best of luck in Eurovision 2025!
