Born in the Herzegovinan city Mostar, Marko Bošnjak is no stranger to the spotlight, having been singing in church choirs from a young age, and even won the second season of Croatian talent show Pinkove Zvezdice at age 11. One of the more vocal personalities we have this year, Marko has spoken openly on Croatian TV on homophobic comments received after publicly coming out as gay in 2024, as well as performing at a charity event in aid of Gaza at Klub Močvara in Zagreb.
Marko’s musical abilities are also celebrated in Croatia, with multiple nominations for Croatian song of the year, and many of his songs reaching the Croatian charts, with Poison Cake even making it to the coveted number 1 position.
2025 isn’t Marko’s first attempt to represent Croatia on the Eurovision stage, with a previous attempt at Dora in 2022 seeing him come second to Mia Dimsic with his song Moli Za Nas, an emotive ballad that was after released as his debut single.
His 2025 entry “Poison Cake” saw him succeed on his second attempt at Dora, coming first with juries, however only coming fourth in the televote. “Poison Cake” brings a stark juxtaposition from the ballad of 2022, bringing dark pop twinged with nursery rhyme catchiness to the contest. Marko will be hoping to elevate his national final performance for the Eurovision stage, and gain the televoting public’s favour.
Can Marko continue Croatia’s run of good form and take the country back to the Eurovision final? Could he be a dark horse amongst this year’s line up? Let us know!
