On the 4th of February, the Azerbaijani broadcaster Ä°TV officially announced that the trio Mamagama had been internally selected to represent the nation at this year’s contest in Basel.
For the first time, Azerbaijan will be represented by a group, hoping to return to the grand final for the first time since 2022.
Who are Mamagama?
Mamagama was founded in 2021 in Baku, consisting of three members, Sefael “Asaf” Mishiyev, Bahruz “Huss” Efendiyev and Allahverdi “Arif” Gumbetli. The trio has explored all manner of musical genres, often mixing traditional elements into their more modern, indie-leaning style of music.
Credited for each having background within the industry, they soon cemented their status with appearances across certain European music festivals. In 2022, they competed in the prestigious Albanian music festival Kënga Magjike with the song “Dreamer”, achieving first place in the “International Artists” category.
Previous Attempts
The following year, Mamagama were one of five artists shortlisted to compete for their country in the 2023 contest in Liverpool. However, they eventually lost out to that year’s representatives Tural & Turan.
