Saturday 10th February will see eight more artists compete to qualify for the final of Eurovizija.LT. Here are the eight acts they will be hoping to join next week:
- Silvester Belt – Luktelk
- VB Gang – Kaboom!!!
- Aistè – We Will Rule the World
- Žalvarinis – Gaudy vėjai
- Pluie de Comètes – Be Careful
- Shower – Impossible
- Il Senso – Time
- Monika Marija – Unlove You Starting Tomorrow
In addition to tonight’s hopefuls, Lithuanian singer-songwriter FC Baseball will perform as tonight’s interval act. He will also serve as a member of tonight’s jury, which will have 50% of the say in who qualifies tonight alongside the televote. Read on to learn more about the artists competing tonight!
Freya Alley
Freya Alley is a Lithuanian singer-songwriter who is based in London. Her music is a mix of ambient pop, indie and electronica and she cites Lana Del Rey as one of her influences. She released her debut single ‘Swimming’ in 2017.
Freya is hoping to represent Lithuania at Eurovision with her song ‘Serenade‘ which was written alongside platinum-selling producer and songwriter Laurence Hobbs, who has worked with acts such as Sam Smith and Pixie Lott. A newcomer to the contest, can Freya make her mark on the Lithuanian music industry?
Káro – Weightless
Káro is the stage name of Karolė Virbickaitė, who has released the 2022 singles ‘Take the Trash Out‘ and ‘Dance With the Devil’, along with ‘You Wanna Make Me Yours‘ in 2023. She will be making her Eurovizija.LT debut with the song ‘Weightless‘ which she wrote herself and which has a pop rock sound.
Petras – Run
Petras Daunys, who performs under his first name, participated in the first series of the Lithuanian X Factor in 2012. He performed in the Boys category but was eliminated in the third week’s sing-off. He has gone on to release a number of singles with his latest, ‘Sparnai tavo sielai‘ (‘Wings For Your Soul’), having been released on 6th February 2024.
Petras is hoping to make it to the final with his song ‘Run‘. The singer apparently only decided to submit the song to Eurovizija.LT a few hours before submission deadlines closed. Could this last minute decision see him represent Lithuania at Eurovision?
Queens of Roses – Walk Through Fire
Queens of Roses are a girl group consisting of Giedrė Linkevičienė, Monika Mėčiūtė and Akvilė Kisielienė. They have competed to represent Lithuania on a number of occasions, their most recent effort being the 2022 entry ‘Washing Machine‘ which placed eighth in the final.
Hoping to qualify again, Queens of Roses are back with their song ‘Walk Through Fire‘. A female empowerment anthem, could this spark a flame in jurors and televoters and see the girls take it all?
April Frey – New Years
April Frey is the stage name of Lithuanian singer-songwriter Ieva Andriuškevičiūtė. She released her debut single ‘people i know‘, which was a duet with the singer Jacob Enkeling, in 2022.
Hoping to make her mark and qualify for the final, April will be performing her song ‘New Years‘ which the singer wrote herself. Featuring a simple piano and strings to accompany her Billie Eilish-esque vocals, this could be a really beautiful, quiet moment onstage. Will it help her stand out?
Emilija V – Trophy Wife
Emilija Valiukevičiūtė, also known as Emilija V, is a Lithuanian singer who has previously competed to represent her country on two separate occasions. She first competed in 2018 with the song ‘Bye Bye‘ and again in 2022 with the song ‘Overload‘. However, both attempts placed last in their respective heats
Hoping the third time’s a charm, Emilija is back with the song ‘Trophy Wife‘, which she wrote alongside songwriters Herve Tshibola and Tiago Antunes. Lyrically, this pop rock song deals with a woman who realises her lover is treating her badly and decides to end things once and for all.
The Roop – Simple Joy
By far the most well-known act performing tonight are The Roop. In 2020, they were selected to represent Lithuania at Eurovision with their song ‘On Fire‘. However, the contest was cancelled due to COVID-19. Undeterred, the band decided to compete in Pabandom iš Naujo! again in 2021, winning the contest for a second time with their song ‘Discoteque‘. At Eurovision, the song placed eighth in the final which is Lithuania’s best result in the competition since 2006, when LT United placed sixth with their song ‘We Are the Winners‘.
Now The Roop are back and hoping to be Lithuania’s entrants for a third time with their song ‘Simple Joy‘. Sonically it is characteristically The Roop and lyrically it is about enjoying the little things in life and how these make us truly rich. Could we be seeing the group back on a Eurovision stage?
Lina Štalytė – Perfect
Last in the running tonight is Lina Štalytė, who has been living in Paris and performing jazz and soul music for the last ten years. She released her debut album ‘Summer Nights‘ in 2023 and has previously attempted to compete in Pabandom iš naujo! in that same year. However, she was disqualified when it was discovered that her entry, ‘My Body‘, had first been posted to YouTube in 2020, which is a breach of the EBU’s rules that state all prospective Eurovision entries must only have been published the September before the contest.
Lina Štalytė is competing this year with her song ‘Perfect‘, which was released in January 2024. The song is a piano ballad which is about running away from a lover due to feeling constantly inferior to them.
