Having won the contest last year, all eyes were on Switzerland to see what they would select as their host entry for Eurovision 2025. In March, it was announced that Basel-born Zoë Më would represent Switzerland with her song ‘Voyage’.

Read on to learn more about Zoë, her career so far and her voyage to Eurovision.

Who is Zoë Më?

Zoë Më is the stage name of 24-year-old Zoë Anina Kressler who was born in host city Basel before moving to Germany as a small child. In 2009, her family relocated back to Fribourg which borders both French and German-speaking Switzerland. Growing up in Fribourg had a profound impact on Zoë’s music and the singer often blends both French and German into her lyrics.

Career

Zoë began writing her won songs when she was a child and in 2016 she won the local band contest Road to Wke’n’Jam and performed in the Glasbox for Swiss radio station SRF3 in 2017. In 2020, Zoë released her debut album ‘Momoko’ which was entirely written, composed and produced by the artist herself. This release was awarded Album of the Week by her local radio station Radio Fribourg and led to Zoë being invited to perform at numerous music festivals. She has opened for successful Swiss musicians such as Joya Marleen and Switzerland’s Eurovision 2023 representative Remo Forrer.

In 2024, Zoë was awarded the RTS Artiste Radar and SRF 3 Best Talent awards which have previously been won by Eurovision 2022 representative Marius Bear and last year’s winner Nemo. In this same year, Zoë also released the two EPs ‘Le Loup’ and ‘Dorienne Gris’ and performed at the prominent Swiss music festivals the Montreux Jazz Festival and Luzern Live.

Eurovision 2025

Although Zoë was selected to represent Switzerland this year, her song ‘Voyage’ dates back to 2022 when Zoë wrote the song with songwriters Emily Middlemas and Tom Oehler during the SUISA Songwriting Camp. Despite being renowned for mixing French and German in her songwriting, Zoë knew that she wanted the entire song to be in French. Explaining her songwriting process in an interview with SUISA, Zoë said:

When I am writing songs, I usually have a story that I want to tell and then I try to find the right sentences for that. And then these sentences sound like a melody in my head.

In the case of ‘Voyage’, the song is about how kindness leads to people creating the best versions of themselves with lyrics such as “Flowers are more beautiful when you water them” and “Let me love you even if you don’t”. In a year laden with bombastic, televote-appealing songs, ‘Voyage’ could be a moment of calmness and serenity onstage.

As the host country, Switzerland will automatically qualify for a spot in the grand final where they will perform 19th in the running order. They will also have time to impress audiences in the second half of the first semi-final, where Zoë will perform between Croatia and Cyprus.

Speaking of her participation in Eurovision, Zoë told eurovision.tv:

Representing Switzerland at the ESC while we are hosting the contest is a huge honour and a surreal experience. I’m from Basel, and my grandparents live here. This is a full-circle moment, just like something out of a fairytale.

We certainly wish her and Switzerland the best of luck in May!
