Denmark made their choice for Eurovision 2025 on Saturday March 1st 2025, with Sissal going on to win DMGP with ‘Hallucination’

Read on to find out more about her!

Who Is Sissal?

Sissal Jóhanna Norðberg Niclasen, who goes simply by her first name, is a 30 year old singer born in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands. This makes her the first Faroese woman and second ever artist from the Faroe Islands to represent Denmark at Eurovision, after Reiley – who competed in Liverpool in 2023.

She’s been singing since she was a child and at the age of 10 Sissal won the Faroese version of Melodi Grand Prix. In 2020 she moved to Copenhagen and alongside her music career she’s studying to be a teacher.

Sissal released her first single ‘Deep End’ in June 2024, and earlier this year she dropped her first EP ‘Hear Me Now’.

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix

Sissal was announced as one of eight artists set to compete in DMGP 2025 in January, and was the instant favourite to win. Her song ‘Hallucination’ is an electro-pop number inspired by artists like Dagny and Robyn. Written with Malthe Johansen, Chris Chordz, Line Spangsberg, Marcus Winther-John, Linnea Deb and Melanie Wehbe, Sissal told DR:

The song ended up being about when love feels so absurdly right that it can almost only be a hallucination.

I see both the Danish show and Eurovision as a potentially huge showcase, where I can really get to show what I can do and share my music with a lot of people. I seriously love Eurovision with a wholehearted heart, so it would be huge if I were allowed to have that experience. I would love that.

Sissal, alongside Tim Schou and Adel The Second reached the super-final of DMGP, winning the jury but coming second in the televote – beating Tim Schou by just one point, becoming Denmark’s 2025 Eurovision artist.

Eurovision 2025

At Eurovision 2025, Denmark will perform in the second half of Semi Final 2 on May 15th 2025.

Denmark have failed to qualify for the Eurovision final for 5 years – last appearing in 2019 with ‘Love Is Forever’ by Leonora. They have come close – notably ‘Øve Os PÃ¥ Hinanden’ placing 11th in the 2021 semi final, and Saba placing 12th with ‘Sand’ last year. With ‘Hallucination’ being well received by Eurovision fans, Denmark will be hoping the momentum continues – putting them in their first final of the 2020s decade.

We wish Sissal & Denmark the best of luck in Basel!
