Denmark get ready to choose their 2025 Eurovision entry this weekend, with Dansk Melodi Grand Prix set to take place on the 1st March 2025.
Denmark haven’t qualified for a Eurovision final for 6 years – their last appearance being in 2019 with ‘Love Is Forever’ by Leonora. Can one of these songs take them back there in Basel? Here are the ones to watch…
Sissal – ‘Hallucination’
By far the favourite for DMGP 2025, ‘Hallucination‘ by Sissal is currently sitting at 58% chance of winning in the odds – 48% ahead of those in 2nd and 3rd. It’s an electropop track written by Malthe Johansen, Chris Rohde-Frisk, Line Spangsberg, Marcus Winther-John, Linnea Deb and Melanie Wehbe, showcasing Sissal’s powerful voice. The Faroese star is inspired by Robyn and Dagny, and is a huge Eurovision fan – saying it’s a world that makes her feel at home. Could she be the one to represent Denmark in Eurovision?
Maria Mathea – ‘Air’
Sitting behind Sissal in 2nd in the odds is Maria Mathea and her song ‘Air‘. No stranger to national finals and Eurovision, this is the first time Maria competes as an artist – previously submitting entries as a songwriter, including Blanka’s ‘Solo‘ which represented Poland at Eurovision 2023. ‘Air’ is penned by Maria, Julie Aagaard and Emil Lei, and is a piano ballad which gently builds throughout the 3 minutes – again requiring some strong vocals during the live performance. With a lack of ballads in this style in Eurovision 2025, Maria may just be what Denmark needs to stand out in their semi-final – will she be their choice?
Adel The Second – ‘The Unluckiest Boy Alive’
Adel the Second, started singing at age 13 – but ‘The Unluckiest Boy Alive‘ acts as his debut single. Adel The Second wrote the song with SΓΈren Christensen, mixing house, pop and orchestral elements together – blending with his unique vocals to create an entry that sits just outside of the odds top 3. Will he suprise and win the contest, becoming Denmarks 2025 Eurovision hopeful?
Andreas Kruse – ‘Hear My Prayer’
Andreas Kruse will be known to the public as a part of the group Place on Earth, who won X Factor 2018 in Denmark. He released his debut single in 2022, and now takes the next step as a solo artist by taking part in DMGP 2025. ‘Hear My Prayer’ is a song about unity and echoes individual problems that we all carry around, written by himself alongside Linda Dale, Malthe August and Rasmus βMajalleβ Olsen. Again, there is (so far) nothing like this in Eurovision 2025 – which may put Denmark in a great position to qualify. Will Andreas be their artist for Basel?
These aren’t the only artists taking part – we also have entries to look forward to from Max Ulver, HervΓ© Toure, MARIYA and Tim Schou – who won DMGP 2011 as a member of A Friend In London with ‘New Tomorrow’, which came 5th at Eurovision.
