Norway return to a singular show to select their entry for Eurovision 2025, with Melodi Grand Prix set to take place with 9 artists on February 15th 2025.
With former winners and debutants all hoping for a shot at representing Norway in Basel, they’ll have to impress the jury (which accounts for 40% of the vote) and televote (who account for 60%) if they want to get there.
With all that being said, let’s take a look at the MGP ones to watch for 2025!
Kyle Alessandro – ‘Lighter’
Returning solo to MGP 2025 is 18-year-old Kyle Alessandro. You may remember him from 2023, when he competed as part of Umami Tsunami with ‘Geronimo’, which reached the final. Kyle has been performing and impressing audiences since the age of 10, and now eight years on he leads this years MGP artists as the runaway favourite to win. His song ‘Lighter’ is an upbeat number written and produced by himself and Adam Woods – who you may remember from Melodifestivalen 2023 and 2024. Kyle told the Building Bridges Podcast he wanted to “mix everything I love about Eurovision into one song’, using ‘Fairytale’, ‘SloMo’, ‘Zári’ and ‘La Noia’ as influences. ‘Lighter’ is also inspired by his mother’s battle with cancer, and talks about finding the light in dark times. Could Kyle be heading to Switzerland?
Nataleen – ‘The Game’
The Voice Norway 2022 star Nataleen is taking part in MGP 2025 with ‘The Game’ – a dramatic entry akin to that of Alessandra’s ‘Queen Of Kings’ mixed a little with Klara Hammarström’s ‘Run To The Hills’. It’s no surprise it bears similarities with Alessandra – it’s co-written by the same writers! Nataleen is hot on Kyle’s heels in the odds, and it’s looking like a two horse race between the pair if both their performances come together in the Oslo Spektrum. Will Norway pick Nataleen?
Wig Wam – ‘Human Fire’
Remember Wig Wam? One of two former Melodi Grand Prix winners back this year, Wig Wam return for another shot at Eurovision – 20 years after their first appearance. The glam metal band were formed in 2001, entering MGP in 2005 with ‘In My Dreams’ – going on to place 9th at Eurovision that same year. They split in 2014, reuniting in 2019 – seeing a boost to their career in 2022 after appearing on the HBO Max soundtrack for Peacemaker. Now they’re looking to remind Europe of their name by entering MGP with ‘Human Fire’. Will we be seeing Wig Wam back in Eurovision?
Melodi Grand Prix 2025, despite the favourites – is quite unpredictable this year. 1985 Eurovision winners Bobbysocks return with ‘Joyful’, and if audiences are feeling nostalgic then they may be heading to Basel. Tone Damli could also finally make it to Eurovision, after trying for Norway in 2009 and 2020, and for Sweden in 2013. We also have entries by Ladybug, LLL, Sondrey and Nora Jabri to look forward to.
The final of Melodi Grand Prix 2025 will be broadcast live on NRK at 18:50 GMT // 19:50 CET.
