Confirmed for the contest back on January 12th, it wasn’t until March 11th that Georgian pop sensation Nutsa Buzaladze’s song ‘Firefighter’ was released.
Read on to find out more about her & her journey to Eurovision 2024!
Who Is Nutsa Buzaladze?
Nutsa Buzaldaze, who also goes just by her first name in music, was born in Tbilisi on January 12th 1997. At age 5 she joined a children’s musical group, and began learning piano at age 8.
Rise To Fame
In 2011, Nutsa first became known to the public after competing on Georgia’s Got Talent, before going on to represent her country in New Wave 2014, which she won.
Her win on New Wave catapulted her into success in numerous TV competitions, including Dancing With The Stars, Your Face Sounds Familiar, Two Stars Georgia and The Voice of Turkey, the latter of which saw her be mentored by Hadise, who was the Turkish Eurovision representative in 2009. In 2017, Nutsa came 2nd in Georgia’s selection for Eurovision with ‘White Horses Run’.
International Success
Nutsa released her debut album ’Nutsa22’ in 2019, featuring both Georgian and English language songs. The album spawned her breakthrough hit single ‘Gelodebi’.
After competing twice in the Russian version of All Together Now, she began to carve out a career for herself in Dubai (where she now resides) before taking part in yet another competition – this time coming 2nd in Albania’s Kenga Magjike 2021.
Last year, she auditioned for American Idol, reaching the top 12 of the competition.
Eurovision 2024
At Eurovision 2024, Georgia will perform 11th – between San Marino & Belgium – in Semi Final 2 on May 9th 2024.
Georgia has failed to qualify at Eurovision since 2016, but with Nutsa’s stage presence, vocal power and incredible performances at preparties this could all be about to change if ‘Firefighter’ comes together on stage in Malmö. It already has a big fanbase, and despite Semi 2 being dominated by other upbeat entries, ‘Firefighter’ isn’t near any similar entries in the running order – which may just be what Georgia needs to push through this semi for their first final in 8 years.
Nutsa told Wiwibloggs about her songs message & what she hopes to achieve for Georgia in Eurovision…
I wanted Georgia to have a very strong message for this year because of the situations we see now in the world […]. I experienced, as a human, a lot of judgemental comments about me, a lot of hate, a lot of negativity so since I was a kid I was fighting this negativity with love, always. That’s why I’m saying in this song we have to “put out the fire” – so fire represents all this negativity that’s going on right now in the world and I’m trying to “save this love” and I am actually putting out the fire with love. […] Everybody, everyone can do that but you have to be a very strong person to fight hate with kindness and love.
