A process which started back in November, San Marino’s long journey to find their Eurovision 2024 representative comes to its end this weekend. After a grand total of 129 semi-finalists battled it out during the week to join eight big artists, and the winner of ‘the San Marino Sessions’ (to create an entry composed with AI), we have our finalists.
Who is likely to win the trophy and become Piqued Jacks‘ successor in Malmö? Here we review the main artists to look out for in the final show.
Loredana Bertè – ‘Pazza’ (Crazy)
In probably the biggest surprise of this edition of Una Voce Per San Marino, 12-time Sanremo participant Loredana Bertè will be competing in this year’s contest, actually WITH her Sanremo 2024 7th placing entry ‘Pazza’. Also known as the younger sister of Mia Martini (Italy’s Eurovision representative in 1977 and 1992), she has sold over eight million records, and showcases iconic looks and performances onstage. Loredana is probably the most likely act to win the show after declaring her desire to compete in Sweden to spite her ex-husband Björn Borg. Will she repeat history and participate in a Eurovision year in Malmö just like her sister?
Jalisse – ‘Il paradiso è qui’ (Paradise is here)
In 1997, Jalisse placed 4th in Eurovision for Italy with ‘Fiumi di parole‘. And now, they are aiming to return to the contest for neighbouring San Marino, with their unreleased song ‘Il paradiso è qui‘. The duo made up of Fabio Ricci and Alessandra Drusian notably won the 1997 Sanremo festival (with ‘Fiumi di parole’) whilst being a relatively unknown act, having only previously competed amongst newcomers. In this year’s Sanremo they were invited back to perform their winning song after being rejected as entrants multiple times. Could their luck be reversing with a victory on the horizon here?
La Rua – ‘Governo del cuore’ (Government of the heart)
Folk-pop band La Rua will be competing with the song ‘Governo del cuore‘. Interestingly, they placed 2nd in Sanremo Giovani 2018 behind two time Eurovision artist and Sanremo winner Mahmood with ‘Alla mia età si vola‘. However, what makes their entry one to keep an eye on is the team involved. It was written and produced alongside Dardust, and was a project guided by Sanremo 2001 winner and Sanremo 2022 runner up Elisa. With such names involved, it’s worth asking if such talent will be rewarded. Will we be seeing La Rua in May?
Aaron Sibley – ‘Human’
Aaron Sibley won the emerging acts final in Una Voce Per San Marino 2022 with ‘Pressure‘, and placed 3rd in the final behind Burak Yeter and Alessandro Coli, and winner Achille Lauro. And now, he makes his return as a big artist with the song ‘Human‘, written with France’s Destination Eurovision 2018‘s Max Cinnamon. A familiar face, having previously achieved high results in San Marino, Aaron could be another act to expect a high placing for. Will he achieve a win this time?
The full list of acts competing in the final are as follows:
