Tonight sees the return of Supernova for this year’s grand final! 108 submissions became 15 semi-finalists, with 10 acts making it through last week’s semi-final, and one step closer to the chance to represent Latvia in Malmö in May. Keep reading to find out more about some of the ones to watch in tonight’s Supernova final…
Dons – ‘Hollow’
The bookmakers favourite to win at the time of writing, Dons has been a firm fan favourite to take the win since the release of all competing entries back in January. One of the many names in this year’s Supernova lineup that may be familiar to fans of the Latvian selection process, Dons is someone who has not only previously competed to represent Latvia back in 2014, but was also a judge on the 2015 and 2017 editions of Supernova. Dons’ entry this year, ’Hollow’, is a Hozier-esque pop ballad that has already proven popular amongst viewers.
VÄ“stulÄ“s – ‘kur?’
VÄ“stulÄ“s are another first-time Supernova entrant, with their song ’kur?’. The duo, made up of Brian Martinson and Marta Krampe, have been friends since school, with a shared love of music bringing the two together to perform. The song, ’kur?’, talking about the feeling of loneliness and how this can be overlooked by people on the outside, is the only song in Latvian within this year’s selection. The duo’s semi-final performance has won them a lot of fans, with many considering it a favourite for the win since.
Alekss Silvers – ‘For The Show’
Alekss Silvers is another name to make their return to Supernova in 2024. The singer, producer and vocal coach previously took part in Supernova in 2019 and 2020, where he failed to make the final both times. The dramatic, dark-pop vibes and polished staging from the semi-final has already helped Alekss Silvers best his last two Supernova results and taken him to the final, but will he continue to see a change in his Supernova fortunes and take that final step to the trophy and the chance to represent Latvia at Eurovision this evening?
KatrÄ«na Gupalo – ‘The Cat’s Song’
Currently one of the most watched of all 15 semi-final performances on YouTube, totalling over 37,000 views at the time of writing, only surpassed by Dons’ performance, Katrīna Gupalo’s fun “The Cat’s Song” is now considered one of the favourites to take the Supernova trophy. The Ukrainian-Latvian singer previously took part in Supernova 2018 as part of Katrina Gupalo & the Black Birds with the song ’Intoxicating Caramel’. However, they did not make it through to the final. Having improved on her previous Supernova result with ’The Cat’s Song’, a song narrating a day in the life of a cat, Katrīna will be hoping to go one step further and take the Supernova trophy this evening.
The running order for Saturday’s Supernova final is:
- Vēstulēs
- AVÉI
- Papīra lidmašīnas
- Katrīna Gupalo
- ECTO
- Dons
- Saint Levića
- Edvards Strazdiņš
- Funkinbiz
- Alekss Silvers
