This morning, news broke that the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GBP) has internally selected Circus Mircus to represent Georgia at the 66th Eurovision Song Contest in Turin.
The group described as ‘sonically unique’ is a movement that brings together dozens of professionals from different fields to create ‘an unprecedented audio-visual experience.’
Circus Mircus announced their selection with an unusual message on their YouTube channel:
The group, made up of circus dropouts, formed in 2020, has been reported as saying: ‘we weren’t good enough, probably the worst in the crew, that’s why we became friends.’
No details of the song, or its release date have been announced yet, but as Georgia’s 2021 entry, ‘You’, was announced on the 15th March, we can assume that it will be later in the season.
The nature of the group means that it is hard to predict what kind of performance they might bring to the Eurovision stage, but seeing as ‘their philosophy lies in the complete neglect of musical frameworks,’ we can be sure it’ll be something we’re not likely to forget!
